Shane Gatling, Men's Basketball

The Indian Hills Community College Athletic Department has recognized Shane Gatling (Men's Basketball) and Tyarra English-Paulson (Women’s Track and Field), as March Student Athletes of the Month. This accolade honors student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding work in their respective sport and in the classroom.

Gatling, a sophomore from Baldwin, New York, averaged 19 ppg in the critical month of March for the Warrior basketball team. The 6-2 guard helped the Warriors collect another region and district title, dropping 22 points in the Hellyer Student Life Center against North Dakota State College of Science to advance to the NJCAA DI National Basketball Tournament.  Gatling continued his scoring prowess at the national tournament, scoring 25 points in the team’s loss to Barton County. Over his final three games as a Warrrior, Gatling nailed eleven shots from behind the arc. The sharp shooter garnered ICCAC Player of the Year accolades after finishing the season with a team high 16.6 ppg. “Shane had an outstanding season for us, and capped it off by playing some of his best basketball in March. His shooting and scoring ability is obvious, but he is also a great teammate that does whatever he can on both ends of the floor to help us win games,” said head coach Hank Plona. Gatling is currently touted as a Top-25 basketball player by JucoRecruiting.com, coming in at number 23. Coach Plona is confident in what’s ahead for Gatling, commenting, “Shane has a very bright future in front of him at the Division I level.”
