Dyashia Colvin, Track and Field

The Indian Hills Community College Athletic Department has tabbed Freshman Track & Field Athlete Dyashia Colvin as January’s Student-Athlete of the Month. This accolade honors student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding commitment in both their respective sport, as well as the classroom.

Rock Island, Illinois native and freshman track and field stand-out Dyashia Colvin really made a name for herself this past weekend at the Jack Jennett Open hosted by the University of Northern Iowa.  Colvin blazed the track to a 5th place finish in the 60-meter dash final, and her finishing time of 7.95-seconds was the 3rd fastest time in IHCC school-history in the event. A mere .02-seconds off the previous school-record set by All-American Tyarra English-Paulson before fellow freshman sprint stand-out, and Rock Island native, MyKedra Craig, broke the school-record in the same race. Colvin has consistently been one of the program’s top-sprint athletes this season, as well as a model student-athlete. She notched a 3.60 gpa during the Fall-Term, and had a near 4.0 at the mid-term during the Winter-Term. Coach LeRon Williams said of Colvin, “Dyashia has worked from day one. She has excelled in every way imaginable, and I can only see great things from her to continue to come.”
