Emily Murphy, Women's Soccer

The Indian Hills Community College Athletic Department has tabbed Freshman Emily Murphy (Women’s Soccer) & Sophomore Marcus Graham (Men’s Cross Country) as Augusts Student-Athletes of the Month. This accolade honors student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding commitment in both their respective sport, as well as the classroom.

Murphy, a freshman from Burlington, Iowa, has gotten off to an incredible start to the season. She scored 4 goals in her collegiate debut against Iowa Lakes in what Coach Anthony Longo described as, “probably the most impressive performance I’ve seen as a coach while at Indian Hills”. Murphy would continue her hot start to the season Tuesday against John Wood Community College, scoring 3 goals, and assisting on 2 more in the team’s 10-1 victory. Coach Longo said of Murphy, “Emily has all the tools: Speed, skill, physicality, and an intense desire to win. She has come in and taken over the team offensively, and has established herself to be one of the best in the conference”. Murphy’s 7 goals and 2 assists through 2 games are a big reason the team has gotten off to a 2-and-0 start. The team, & Murphy, will look to continue their strong success on Friday at 2 pm against Jefferson College in the opening game of the Wells Fargo Cup hosted by Indian Hills Community College.
