Indian Hills Soccer Field

Indian Hills Soccer Field

The Indian Hills Soccer Field was built in 2010 by the Indian Hills Community College Landscape and Turfgrass Technology Program and went through a full modern redesign via GrassMax Systems and Iowa Sports Turf in 2021 to provide one of the most unique surfaces in the world.

The newly developed surface implemented by GrassMax Systems, the European market leader in hybrid stritching, features synythetic fibers injected into the all-natural grass playing surface with a sandy base and organic material to increase the horizontal and vertical stability of the natural surface. Prominent in European soccer stadiums, Iowa Sports Turf became the first company in the United States to utilize the GrassMax System with Indian Hills Community College serving as its first partner. Premiere stadiums around the world that utilize the GrassMax Systems include Paris Saint Germain, Leicester City, London Stadium, and the Iconic Lusil Stadium in Qatar.

2×2 cm synthetic fibers are injected in a natural grass or sand subbase to a depth of 18 cm. Natural grass roots grow to a depth of 10 to 20 cm, so 18 cm is the optimal stitching depth. Shallow stitching is possible where required. Stitching 20 million fibers into a sand-based grass pitch ensures that water gets drained from the surface fast. The formation of muddy patches that could lead to a game being canceled, is precluded. The fibers rising above the root surface remain below the standard UEFA or FIFA specified mowing heights and remain intact.

"We are excited about the opportunity to bring this unique playing surface to the United States," stated Casey Scheidel, President of Iowa Sports Turf. "The innovative technology of GrassMax hybrid stitching will take fields to the next level by increasing field usage and durability. We have launched our partnership with installation at Indian Hills Community College. We are eager to expand this partnership to other venues across the country.”

Arguably one of the best soccer playing surfaces in the state, the Indian Hills Soccer Field plays host to the men’s and women’s soccer program's home matches during their fall season.  A new Daktronics scoreboard was added to the facility during the summer of 2016 to go along with the exceptional playing surface and outstanding dugouts that line the sideline.
