The Trinidad State teams under Torrez had an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher every year he was the head coach at the Colorado school.

A native of Brush, Colorado, Torrez played college baseball at Colby (Kansas) and Metro State (Colorado).  He earned a masters of education degree from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma.  He and his wife, Patti, have two children, Austin and Krista.
