Centerville -- Former Indian Hills baseball standouts Jacob Rhinesmith and Zach Fascia were chosen in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.  Rhinesmith was taken by the Washington Nationals in the 18th round; Fascia went to the New York Mets in the 37th round.

Rhinesmith, an outfielder, was a two-year starter for the Falcons before heading to Western Kentucky University for his junior season.  As a sophomore at IHCC, the Shakopee, Minnesota native had a tremendous season, hitting .407 with 11 homers and 59 RBIs.  Those numbers led the Falcons.  He also topped the team in hits (94), total bases (156), slugging percentage (.675) and stolen bases (15) while being named to the All-Region squad and a third-team NJCAA All-American.  This season at Western Kentucky, the lefthanded-hitting Rhinesmith hit .306 with 64 hits, 43 runs scored and 13 steals.  He blasted a team-leading 14 home runs and knocked in 43 runs and was a member of the All-Conference USA first team.

Following a freshman campaign in which he batted .277 for the Falcons, Fascia improved considerably as a soph.  He led IHCC in batting average with his .364 mark, slugged 18 doubles and five homers and drove in 48 runs.  The lefty hitter was Indian Hills' regular catcher and also pitched in 13 games, compiling a 3.00 ERA with nine saves.  The Canadian, from Brampton, Ontario, was a second-team All-Region pick his first year and moved up to the first team this past season.  He was named the Region XI Defensive Player of the Year both years. 

Rhinesmith and Fascia, if they sign professional contracts, would join seven other ex-Indian Hills Falcons currently in the minor leagues.  IHCC has had nine former players sign in the past four years.
