Takamatsu Homers Twice in ICCAC Doubleheader

Takamatsu

Marshalltown, Iowa -- Freshman Garrett Takamatsu homered in each game, but Indian Hills had to settle for its second split in three days against Marshalltown CC on Monday.  Just as they did on Saturday on their home diamond, the Falcons won the first game but dropped the second to the Tigers.

Takamatsu's homer in game one Monday was one of three for IHCC.  Soren Graversen and Matthew Moon also went deep in an 11-4 victory.  Indian Hills led 5-1 going into the final inning, then plated six runs to blow the game open.  Jay Hester went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a stolen base and Alex Fisher was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a triple to lead the IHCC attack.  Omar Vigil picked up his first win of the spring, going 6 1/3 strong innings while allowing only four hits and two earned runs.  He struck out a dozen.  Malik Abdul was called on to get the final two outs.  "It was Omar's best outing of the year," said Falcons coach Matthew Torrez, "and that was good to see.  Offensively, we had competitive at-bats."

MCC got off to a fast start in the second game, scoring three runs in the 1st, two in the 2nd and four more in the 4th on the way to a 10-4 win.  Meanwhile, the Falcons had a rough game defensively, committing five errors.  Takamatsu drilled his 9th home run and upped his RBI total to 38.  Nathan Chasey had an RBI double and Fisher an RBI triple for the Falcons.  Dave Janssen also knocked in a run.  Zacharie Allard started and took the loss.  He was relieved by Ghenki Muroi with Nick Marshall and Jordan Bahnuk also seeing mound action.

The Falcons are now 14-15 and 5-3 in the ICCAC.  They will take on Parkland CC in a non-conference game at Pat Daugherty Field on Wednesday.
