Marshall Blanks Bears

Marshall

Boone, Iowa -- Sophomore right-hander Nick Marshall was outstanding, firing a complete-game, six-hit shutout as Indian Hills took the first game of a Friday doubleheader from DMACC, 4-0.  The Bears came back to gain a split by winning the nightcap, 3-1.

Marshall needed only 89 pitches -- 62 of them strikes -- in his route-going effort.  He faced just 26 batters, walking none and striking out five.  His teammates supplied him with two runs of support in the 2nd inning and one each in the 5th and 7th.  Yuichiro Kamata singled to right field to drive in Ricardo Van Grieken for the first run in the 2nd and Kamata came in to score on a dropped fly ball.  Billy Rivera doubled home Ren Tachioka in the 5th and Van Grieken's single to left plated Rivera in the 7th to close out the scoring.  The top eight hitters in the IHCC lineup all had at least one hit with Rivera, Van Grieken and Kamata getting two apiece.

Indian Hills was held to just two hits in game two --  singles by Ko Nakada and Alejandro Gonzalez.  DMACC scored single runs in the 2nd, 5th and 6th innings.  The Falcons got on the board on a bases-loaded walk to Dave Janssen in the top of the 7th to cut the deficit to 3-1, but their comeback attempt ended there.  Nathan Chasey started on the mound for IHCC and went four innings, giving up five hits and one run with no walks and two Ks.  Douglas Rojas, Milan Van Der Breggen and Maddux Hoaglund all pitched in relief.

The split puts the Falcons' season record at 4-11.
