WARRIORS, MARCHETTI WALK OFF BLACKHAWKS IN 14

Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team captured a thrilling 3-2 win over Southeastern Community College on Friday night at Pat Daugherty Field, dropping the Blackhawks in 14 innings in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) affair. The Warriors improve to 27-21 overall on the year and 21-10 in league play.

In a tightly-contested matchup between the two cross-division foes, the Warriors outlasted the Blackhawks in 14 innings with a walk-off base hit from sophomore AJ Marchetti (Wheeling, IL/Wheeling) who drove in fellow sophomore Cale Clark (Marionville, MO/Marionville) for the game-winner. Indian Hills rallied from a 2-0 deficit while holding Southeastern scoreless over the final eight frames thanks to a dominant effort on the mound from a trio of hurlers.

Sophomore Cole Huebner (Edmonton, Alberta/Strathcona) made the start on the bump for the Warriors and allowed just one run in five innings of action while striking out five batters before Lincoln Muller (Delta, Canada/Sands Secondary) and Aiden Ennis (Scarborough, Ontario/Mary Ward Catholic) starred out of the bullpen to keep the Blackhawks at bay. The win snapped a six-game losing streak to Southeastern.

Huebner was effective on the mound early for the Warriors, striking out a pair of batters in the top half of the first inning to move into sole possession of sixth place on the all-time strikeout list at Indian Hills, dating back to 1994. The Blackhawks eventually hit paydirt with a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to stake a 2-0 lead.

The Warrior offense came to life in the eighth as sophomore Tijmen Nagel (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Roc Amsterdam) delivered a sacrifice fly for the team's initial run before Clark delivered a run-scoring single to drive in Zachari Pace (Colorado Springs, CO/Vista Ridge) and even the score.

Muller kept the Blackhawks off balance, highlighted by an inning-ending double play in the 10th before giving way to Ennis in the 11th.  Ennis stranded two runners in the 11th and left the bases loaded in the 12th to keep the Warriors in contention.

Deadlocked at two in the 14th, Clark stepped to the plate and drove an 0-1 pitch to the right center gap for a leadoff triple. Marchetti stepped to the plate and sent a 1-1 pitch deep to left field for the walk-off base hit, securing the win for the Warriors.

Indian Hills has now won three games in a row and 11 of the team's last 15 outings.

Marchetti, who has now hit safely in 17 of the team's last 19 outings, is the only player in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) who has posted at least a .345 batting average, five home runs, and 17 runners caught stealing from behind the plate.

Indian Hills and Southeastern wrap up the regular season Saturday afternoon for a conference doubleheader at Pat Daugherty Field. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM, with Sophomore Day festivities set to begin at 11:40 AM.
