IHCC Golf Ranked No. 1

Ottumwa -- Depending on which poll you follow, the Indian Hills golf team heads into the winter ranked No. 1 or tied for No. 1 in the nation. The Warriors have the top spot in the poll all to themselves in rankings released by Golfstat; they are tied with Dodge City for 1st in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll.

Indian Hills finished in 2nd place, two shots behind Dodge City, in the NJCAA Fall National Preview to end the fall schedule. Dodge City was 3rd in the Golfstat ratings, behind Indian Hills and Odessa.

"It's always nice to be ranked number one in the nation," said IHCC coach Rob Murray, "especially in the coaches poll because the votes come from your fellow coaches across the country."

Murray added, though, there's still work to do if the Warriors hope to claim the school's 6th national championship in golf next spring. "Getting better never stops and we have to work hard these next four months to be sharp for our events in the spring," the IHCC third-year head coach said. "This is the most important part of the process for us."

Golfstat also releases a list of the best players in the country after the fall season and Indian Hills dominated the top of those ratings. "Having three players ranked in the top six and four in the top 13 of the individual rankings really shows our team's depth," Murray said. "I feel the best is yet to come with this roster and if we work hard this offseason we can really do something special next spring."

IHCC sophomores Jackson Bugdalski and Jakub Bares are 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the top players' list, sophomore Eric Gilpin is 6th and freshman Ricky Sanders is 13th. The Warriors also have freshman Ekkarat Leksuwan at 32nd and soph Jack Duguid at 39th in the ratings, which are based on how the individuals played during the fall.
