Weant National Coach of the Year Winner

Nathan Weant

Ottumwa -- Nathan Weant, who led Indian Hills to the NJCAA Division I national golf title in his first year in charge of the program, has received a Dave Williams National Coach of the Year award.  Weant is one of six coaches nationwide to get the award that was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Weant directed Indian Hills to nine wins in 11 events during the combined fall and spring seasons, taking the team titles in six of seven tourneys this spring by an average of 16 strokes with a school-record stroke average of 284.9.

Indian Hills had the individual champion in seven of 11 competitions in 2017-18.

Named to replace Rob Murray as head golf coach in August last year, Weant saw the Warriors grab the team title in the Klocke Family Classic, his first tournament as a college head coach.

The Warriors were ranked No. 1 in the final regular season Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll and were on top of seven polls during the year.

Weant was also selected as the NJCAA DI District III Coach of the Year.  He will receive the national award during the Hall of Fame banquet at the GCAA national convention in December.

He joins former IHCC coaches Mike Hagen and Rob Murray as Dave Williams Award winners.
