Golfstat Puts IHCC Golf at No. 1

Clarke and Doig

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills enters the offseason ranked No. 1 in the country by Golfstat, and the Warriors have two of the top-14-ranked individuals.

Golfstat is the company used by the NJCAA to administer computer ratings, and their latest rankings, based on play this fall, put Indian Hills number one, followed by Texas schools, Midland and Ranger.

The Warriors are the defending NJCAA Division I champs and won two of four events they played in the fall season.

IHCC sophomore George Clarke is 13th in the player rankings and his teammate, freshman Harry Doig, is 14th.

Clarke had a stroke average of 71.8 for nine rounds, five of his rounds were under-par, and he won the NJCAA District III Preview that was cut short by bad weather.

Doig's stroke average for nine rounds was 72.0 and he was 2nd in the Preview and tied for 3rd in the Warrior Challenge.  Like Clarke, he was under-par in five rounds.

The next-highest individual for IHCC was sophomore Joe Hodgson ranked 31st.  With a stroke average of 72.3 for the fall meets, Hodgson was under-par in three rounds and his best finish was 5th in the Warrior Challenge.

IHCC coach John Mulholland was asked what his team will do during the offseason, in preparation for a shot at another national championship.  "Beginning in November til Christmas break we will begin working on identifying the areas that are weak in each of their golf swings and making them strengths," the coach said.  "We will utilyze the gym, our indoor facility and technology we have here on campus to help with that analysis.  The goal for the winter term for the guys is to move faster/more efficiently, feel stronger and be more flexible.  Early in the spring the whole team will head south to get in some reps on the golf courses and begin our run to the national championship."

"Since our schedule is not set yet," Mulholland added, "I will want to test our games against the highest ranked teams possible in the spring to prepare us for the district tournament and then the national tourney at the end of the spring."
