Indian Hills, Doig Win Titles at Warrior Challenge

Doig

Moravia, Iowa -- A one-two finish by teammates Harry Doig and Cyril Henault powered Indian Hills to a team title in the Warrior Challenge at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake.  Doig took individual medalist honors with his 206 score, 10-under par for the tourney, while Henault, a freshman, ended up one shot behind his teammate after he fired a blistering final-round six-under par 66, the best round of the two-day, 54-hole event.

The Warriors claimed the team title, which they have done both years the tournament has been played.  They finished 11 strokes in front of second-place Iowa Western.  IHCC had three straight under-par rounds -- 279, 280, 280 -- and wound up 25-under par.  Kirkwood CC was 3rd, just two shots behind Iowa Western.

Doig had a pair of 67s with a 72 sandwiched in between over the par-72 course.  Henault started with a 72 and followed it up with a three-under 69 and his 66.

For Doig it was his second 1st-place finish as a Warrior.  He also won the Tyler JC Spring Invitational, the first spring event of 2019.

Jesse MacNaughtan gave IHCC a third top-five player with his score of 212, good for a tie for 5th.  MacNaughtan had a two-stroke advantage over Doig and was atop the leaderboard after the first day, but closed with a 75.  Ethan Keane posted rounds of 72 and 70 on Monday and tied for 10th.  Thomas Barou and Blake Gadd, both playing as individuals, were in a six-way tie for 20th place.  Barou's best score was a 72 in the third round; Gadd turned in a two-under 70 in the middle round.  Harry Fearn rounded out the IHCC scores with his 227, in 28th place.

Indian Hills will continue its fall schedule with a trip to Lemont, Ill., for the Flyer Intercollegiate Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
