Norfolk, Nebraska -- Indian Hills scored 15 unanswered points in the first half to break the game open and used a huge advantage in points in the paint in thrashing Northeast (Neb.), 100-76, on the road Wednesday night.
The IHCC win, coupled with Iowa Western's overtime victory against Southeastern, moves the Warriors into a first-place tie with SCC in the conference standings. Both teams are 2-1. IHCC is 19-3 overall heading into a home contest with Marshalltown CC Saturday night.
With the score 37-25 Indian Hills took off on the 15-0 run that ended with a 3-pointer by Malique Jacobs, back-to-back buckets from Samba Kane and a field goal by Chris Childs. The flurry came late in the opening half and the Warriors extended it in the first nine minutes after halftime, eventually increasing the lead to 81-44 with 10:39 to play. Northeast (11-9, 1-2) connected on 13 threes, many of them after they fell behind by 37 to make the final score a little more respectable.
The hosts were held to 21 percent shooting in the first half and Indian Hills enjoyed a 50-22 margin in points in the lane. IHCC also crushed the Hawks on the glass, 49-20.
The Warriors placed seven players in double figures, led by Tyon Grant-Foster's 17 points. The trio of Chris Payton, Chris Childs and Malique Jacobs all scored 15 -- a season-high for Jacobs. Drake Jeffries, playing on his 21st birthday, drained four 3s and chipped in 12 points. Samba Kane and Theo Bourgeois had 10 apiece, the most this season for the freshman Bourgeois.
Indian Hills shot 55 percent from the floor and held the Hawks to 37 percent.
Asher Scavella paced NCC with his 21 points. Ben Moxness scored 14 of his 16 in the second half.
It's 12 straight wins in the series with Northeast for Indian Hills and they have won 18-of-19 games played in Norfolk.
