Ottumwa -- Indian Hills withstood a furious second-half comeback by Moberly Area CC and completed a season sweep of the Greyhounds with a 100-93 decision at the Hellyer Center on Thursday night. An IHCC lead that was 19 points early in the second period disappeared entirely when MACC came back to tie the score at 75-75 with 8:50 remaining. There were four more ties after that, the last one broken by the Warriors' Chris Childs, who hit a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws for a 91-86 lead. Moberly got the deficit down to a single point one more time before IHCC nailed 7-of-8 free throws in the final two minutes to secure the victory. Childs connected on four straight foul shots in the last 18.8 seconds to provide the final margin.
Childs had 23 points, one less than teammate Tyon Grant-Foster, who paced the Warriors. Chris Payton added 16, Malique Jacobs tied a season high with his 15 and Maurice Calloo chipped in 13, all in the first half.
There were eight ties and eight lead changes in the first 10 minutes of action, the last deadlock at 24-all. Calloo put Indian Hills ahead with a basket that started a 7-0 run. Grant-Foster drilled a three in that spurt. IHCC, moments later, scored eight straight points to build the lead to 42-29. The hosts were up 55-41 at intermission with Grant-Foster scoring back-to-back buckets to end the half.
Jacobs scored and Drake Jeffries buried a triple in the first minue of the final period for a 60-41 bulge. After a pair of MACC field goals, Payton and Jacobs connected for the Warriors and the lead was back to 19.
That's when the Greyhounds started their comeback that eventually allowed them to even the score with just under nine minutes to play. They outscored Indian Hills 30-11 in a span of less than nine minutes and pulled even for the first time since midway through the opening half. But Childs made two big threes after that and cemented the victory with six consecutive makes from the free throw line.
The Warriors shot 55.4 percent from the floor, made 10-of-23 3-point attempts and nearly 78 percent from the foul line. Moberly hit 44 percent of its field goals and only 25 percent from distance.
Eddie Creal led MACC with his 24 points.
Indian Hills has swept the season series from their Region XVI rivals in each of the last four years and is 24-4 all-time against the Greyhounds at the Hellyer Center.
The Warriors return to conference play on Saturday night when they travel to Council Bluffs to take on Iowa Western. They are currently one-half game ahead of the Reivers in the standings.
