Ottumwa, IA – No. 4 Indian Hills soared past Southeastern Community College on Saturday night with an 81-57 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) victory at the Hellyer Center. The Warriors improve to 17-4 overall on the year and 2-0 in league play.
In the 148th all-time meeting between the two longtime foes, Indian Hills put the game out of reach early to secure its fourth consecutive win over the Blackhawks, and 13th in the last 15 meetings. The 24-point win over Southeastern is the largest in the series since a 37-point win on March 1, 2017, a span of 22 contests.
Indian Hills was led by a team-high 18 points form sophomore Abdoulaye Fall (Dakar, Senegal/Cloud County), this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week. Fall added eight rebounds and a pair of assists in the win.
Sophomore William Beugre-Kassi (_Pontoise, France/Albert Thomas) tallied 17 points on 6-9 shooting for the Warriors while Trenton Walters (Frisco, TX/Radford) went 4-5 from three-point range to finish the night with 14 points. Sophomore Joao Das Chagas (Niquelândia, Brazil/Arizona Western) tallied seven points and a game-high nine rebounds as 10 players in total found the scoring column.
The Warriors controlled the rebounding advantage on the night with a 37-26 edge, including a 13-4 margin on the offensive glass. Indian Hills forced 18 turnovers on the night, capitalizing on the Blackhawk miscues to score 28 points. The Warriors also used a sizable 36-22 advantage in points in the point to run away from the Blackhawks.
In a game that never saw the Warriors trail, Indian Hills jumped all over its longtime conference foe from the jump. Fall scored the first nine points of the game for the Warriors as Indian Hills built a 15-5 lead just 5:18 into the contest. The Warriors connected on a barrage of three-point shots before Walters connected on three consecutive shots from beyond the arc to push the lead to 39-20 late in the first half. The Warriors took a comfortable 45-25 lead into intermission.
Indian Hills never let the Blackhawks back within striking distance, pushing the lead to as many as 29 midway through the second half. The Warriors held Southeastern to just 14.3 percent from three-point range over the final 20 points as Indian Hills cruised down the stretch to pick up the ICCAC win.
Fall continued a solid pace of play over the sophomore's last six outings. During the stretch, Fall is averaging 17.0 points per game on 60.7 percent shooting from the floor while adding 6.7 rebounds per contest.
Indian Hills' homestand continues with a Friday night matchup on January 24 against Central Nebraska Community College at the Hellyer Center. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
