Shackleford's Hat Trick Leads to Fridal's Initial Win

Ottumwa -- Three goals by Akean Shackleford and a stout defensive effort led to the first IHCC victory for new coach Jon Fridal as the Warriors took care of MCC-Maple Woods, 5-1, at the IHCC field Thursday afternoon.

Clement Mensah opened the scoring for Indian Hills with a goal, off an assist from Wilson Barahona, just five minutes into the match. After that, Shackleford converted on a pair of scoring chances only three minutes apart as the Warriors raced to a 4-1 lead at the half.

The only goal of the second half was the one that gave Shackleford a hat trick. He scored in the 84th minute with an assist from Jose Gonzalez.

Gonzalez had also picked up an assist on Shackleford's first goal of the day. Steven Oduro was credited with the assist on Shackleford's next goal.

Joao Brasil had an unassisted goal in the first half for the Warriors in their initial win of the season, after suffering tough losses in their first two contests.

Ricardo Haro stopped five shots as the Indian Hills goalkeeper. The Warriors outshot the visitors, 15-6.

Coach Fridal's squad will try to make it back-to-back wins on Saturday when they host nationally-ranked Marshalltown CC at 4:00.
