Warriors Take Down No. 7 Tigers

Ottumwa -- The Indian Hills men's soccer team got the program's biggest win in a number of years on Saturday, knocking off No. 7 rated Marshalltown CC, 2-1, at the IHCC field.

The win was the second straight for the Warriors and evened their season record at 2-2. The loss snapped a 25-match regular-season unbeaten streak for MCC.

Akean Shackleford, who had a hat trick in IHCC's Thursday win over MCC-Maple Woods, opened the scoring against Marshalltown early in the first half. Rodrigo Pascual assisted on Shackleford's team-high fifth goal of the season.

Later in the half, Wilson Barahona beat MCC goalkeeper Rafael Pereira to make it 2-0 Indian Hills, his goal, assisted by Shackleford and Jose Gonzalez, coming with three minutes remaining in the opening stanza.

The Warriors had to hold on in the second half in order to complete the upset win and goalkeeper Gabriel Ivlev helped them do that, stopping the Tigers' scoring chances until Kino Ryosuke found the back of the net with 15 minutes to play. But the Tigers couldn't get the equalizer and the Warriors escaped with the huge conference victory.

Marshalltown outshot IHCC, 11-9, and Ivlev was credited with nine saves in the Indian Hills goal.

Indian Hills hopes to take the momentum from Saturday's big win on the road with them when the Warriors travel to Mason City to take on NIACC on Tuesday.
