Warriors Edge Ranked Tritons

Ottumwa -- Second-half goals by Stephen Oduro and Akean Shackleford were all the Indian Hills Warriors needed on Saturday as their impressive string of wins continued with a 2-1 victory against 18th-ranked Iowa Central at the IHCC field.

The game was scoreless until Oduro converted a pass from Joao Brasil in the 72nd minute to give IHCC the advantage. Eight minutes later Akean Shackleford, the reigning conference Athlete of the Week, netted his eighth goal of the season for some insurance, beating ICCC goalkeeper Anthony Velez.

Shackleford's goal, assisted by Adam Garner, proved to be key when the Tritons' Omar Flores beat IHCC keeper Gabriel Ivlev with just under three minutes remaining. But the Tritons were unable to get the tying goal as the Indian Hills defense came through in the final minutes to preserve the win.

IHCC, which lost its first two matches, won its fourth in a row. The last three victories, all conference wins, have come against a rated Marshalltown squad, NIACC on the road, and the Saturday conquest of nationally-ranked Iowa Central.

IHCC's Ivlev had two saves against ICCC. Velez stopped four Indian Hills shots in the Tritons' goal.

The Warriors will put their winning streak on the line when they play at Scott CC in Bettendorf on Wednesday.
