Kevin Nuss will begin his second full season as head coach of the Indian Hills Men's Soccer program in 2022 after being named the program's eighth head coach in July, 2021.
Nuss led the Warrior program to the NJCAA Region XI Semifinals in his inaugural season in 2021 after earning a first-round upset of Iowa Central. The Warriors were led by NJCA All-Region XI selections Pablo Marques and Matteo Scarduzio. For his efforts throughout the season, Marques was selected as the recipient of the prestigious NJCAA Lea Plarski Award, presented annually to the junior colleege student-athlete that best exemplifies leadership, sportsmanship, community service, athletic success, and academic excellence, the first winner in Indian Hills Athletics history.
Along with the in-season accomplishments and accolades, Nuss led six individuals to sign Letters of Intent with four-year univerisities following the completion of the season.
Following the season, Nuss was selected to lead the Ocean City Nor'easters program, a member of the USL League Two (USL2), the top amateur league in North America and is considered the 4th division of soccer underneath the three professional leagues (Major League Soccer, USL Championship, and USL League One). Nuss has previously served with the Nor'easters program for seven seasons in a variety of roles, including head coach and sporting director in 2019.
Nuss, who most recently was head coach of NJCAA Division III Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ, brings with him a wealth of coaching and front office experience at the professional, collegiate and club levels.
Prior to joining Indian Hills, Nuss piloted the Cougars to a remarkable 41-5-2 mark, which included three trips to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament as well as three Region XIX Championships.
Nuss currently holds the United States Soccer Federation C coaching license and is working towards attaining B-level status and UEFA licenses. Nuss is currently enrolled in a Master Coach course provided by the University of Delaware and the United Soccer Coaches.
“I’m excited to join a program with such a rich athletics tradition,” Nuss said upon the acceptance of the position. “I look forward to making sure that the men’s soccer program continues to be a part of that.”
Nuss' tenure with the Nor'easters began in 2011. Nuss served as the assistant coach from 2012-13 before being named the associate head coach in 2014 and general manager from 2014-16. During his time there, the Nor'easters competed against a bevy of professional teams including the Philadelphia Union in the third round of the 2013 U.S. Open Cup and Benfica SL from Portugal. Over 50 players moved on from the program to sign professional contracts.
Nuss previously held roles as an assistant coach for the men’s soccer programs at Brown University (Ivy League), Saint Joseph’s University (Atlantic-10) and Rutgers-Camden University.
Upon his arrival in Ottumwa, IHCC Athletics Director and Vice President of Student Development and Operations, Brett Monaghan, expressed his confidence in Nuss to revitalize the Warrior program. “I’m excited to welcome Kevin to the Indian Hills Athletic Department. In Kevin, we are getting an individual who is a proven winner at the NJCAA level and has a plethora of experience all across collegiate soccer. He is a next-level recruiter that I believe will identify high quality student-athletes to bring to Indian Hills to compete for our men’s soccer program, but more importantly, represent the athletic department and college to the standards we have set and expect of these individuals. I believe Kevin will lead our men’s soccer program in a championship direction and I can’t wait to see the results this fall.”
