Five Men's Track & Field Events Crowned All-Region

Council Bluffs, Iowa-- The men's track and field team ended the 2018 Region XI Outdoor Track & Field championships with five All-Region performances. The two-day meet took place at Iowa Western Community College May 4-5, marking the last opportunity for the Warriros to qualify individuals and relays for the NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.

Two men took home two Region XI titles, lead by the 4x100m relay team. The relay comprised of Bernard McCann III, Brieon Randle, Joshua Raphael and Deterio Newman took the win with a new school record and national qualifying time of 41.82. Nathan Winters was the second Warrior to walk away victorious, as he was crowned the shot put champion with a toss of 15.81m. Winters went on to earn Second Team All-Region in the discus where he finished second with a mark of 46.29m. Other All-Region performances included a third place showing for Doug Turner in the javelin throw (43.67m) and a third place high jump from Colton Lanman (1.93m).

The Warriors picked up valuable points from Brieon Randle and Chris Kubli in the men's 400m, as they crossed the line in fifth (49.22) and eighth (49.61), respectively. In addition, Zachary Hougland placed fifth in the 5,000m run (17:19), Damond Anderson took sixth in the high jump (1.88m) and Bernard McCann III crossed the line in seventh in the 100m finals (11.30). Other notable performances included a seventh place finish by Garret Hinson in the 1,500m run (4:20.31) and an eighth place showing from Cody Mathis in the 3,000m steeplechase (12:35). One of the most impressive feats of the weekend came from freshman long jumper, Keenan Livingston. Livingston set a personal best in the long jump, placing eighth with a jump of 6.21m. Going into the meet, Livingston's personal best in the event was 5.96m.

The men's track and field team will now shift their focus to the NJCAA Outdoor National Track & Field meet May 17-19th in El Dorado, Kansas. Those competing include: Nathan Winters (shot put, discus), Deterio Newman (400m), Chris Kubli (800m), Colton Lanman (high jump), the 4x100m relay (Bernard McCann III, Brieon Randle, Joshua Raphael, Deterio Newman), and the 4x400m relay (Brieon Randle, Jeremy Leath, Chris Kubli, Deterio Newman).
