Bettendorf, Iowa -- The men's cross country team opened up their 2018 campaigns this past weekend, taking part in the Region XI Time Trial hosted by Scott Community College on Saturday, August 25th. The Warriors ran a 5,000m course in sweltering weather that saw a heat index of nearly 90 degrees.

Sophomores Marcus Graham and Michael DeMeyer stole the show in the men's race, finishing 1-2 in 16:21 and 17:00, respectively. Graham's time was a 5,000m xc school record. Graham and DeMeyer's places were the highest in program history at this meet. The Warrior men had the remainder of their top seven made up of freshmen, led by Zach Schocker in 24th and Seth Kilborn in 30th. Drake VanBaale, Mason Tyler and Marc Estrada placed 37th, 38th and 41st, respectively. The men placed 4th overall as a team, just 22 points out of third place.

The Warriors will sit idle before competing next at the 57th Les Duke Invite hosted by Grinnell College on Saturday, September 8th. The Les Duke Invite will feature an 8,000m race for the men. In the 56th edition of the race, the Warrior men finished 8th of 12 teams.
