LeRon Williams, a former Big 12 track standout at the University of Nebraska, is the new head coach of the men’s and women’s running programs at Indian Hills Community College.

Williams comes to IHCC from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan where he was an assistant coach, working with the sprints, mid-distance, hurdles, jumps and multi-events. At Wayne State, the new Indian Hills coach helped develop the first indoor and outdoor All-American in program history. During an earlier stint as an assistant coach at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, he guided two athletes to the first round of the NCAA Championships, a program-first.

“It’s an honor to join the Indian Hills Community College family,” Williams said. “This was a great opportunity to work alongside Athletic Director Brett Monaghan to build a formidable and nationally-competitive program. I have no doubt in my mind that with the resources available and the people that surround our program will can build a winning culture that has not only successful athletes but also successful people after their athletic careers are done.”

Williams joins the track and field program at Indian Hills during the indoor season. He will also be in charge of the Warriors men’s and women’s cross country programs that compete in the fall.

In addition to his work at Wayne State and Austin Peay, the Michigan native also served as an assistant coach at Midland University in Fremont, Neb., Central High School in Omaha, Neb., and at a high school in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica.

Williams earned his bachelor’s degree at Nebraska where he was a three-time NCAA qualifier in the long jump, a five-time All-Big 12 athlete, helped the Huskers win a Big 12 team championship and ranks seventh all-time in the long jump with a personal best leap of 25’8”.

His coaching successes include leading Wayne State to the best outdoor track and field conference finish ever, and assisting with the two-time state champions at Omaha Central where he coached two school record-holders in the 60-meters.

Currently working on his master’s degree at Midland University, Williams takes over as the head of the IHCC running programs from Brent Ewing, who left the position in December.
