IHCC Shooters Roll in First Meet

Sports Shooting

Ottumwa -- The Indian Hills sports shooting team got its fall season started on Saturday, dominating a short-handed Ellsworth squad at the Izaak Walton League.

IHCC posted a score of 469 to 275 for an ECC squad with only three shooters.

"It was still good for us to get out there and compete, despite Ellsworth bringing just three athletes," IHCC coach Jake Stalzer said.  "For our first shoot I was very happy with the results."

Ryan Klein of Indian Hills took home the 2nd place medal with his score of 96, just one bird ahead of teammate Austin Dinsmore, who was third with a 95, and two better than Ryan Foster (94).  Tristan Bakalar had a 93 for IHCC and Nathan Welch a 91.  Shayla Rotenberger of Indian Hills took 3rd place for the women with her score of 82.

"Our top five was a mix of both returners and freshmen," Stalzer noted, "and our score of 469 was only four birds shy of our current school record.  With a little bit more practice and work I really think we will have a solid squad this year."

IHCC will be back in action against Iowa Western on Sept. 22 at the Ottumwa Izaak Walton League, starting at 11 a.m.
