Head coach Jake Stalzer became the first-ever head coach of the Indian Hills Sports Shooting program, announced in October 2016, and has led the team in each of its six seasons of collegiate competition.

Stalzer has been instrumental in growing the sport, not just on the Indian Hills campus, but throughout the collegiate landscape in the state of Iowa and on the national level. One of the fastest growing sports among junior colleges in the United States, Stalzer has helped lead the Warriors to new heights in each of his six seasons as the man in charge of the program. Stalzer's program, made up of both males and females, compete for both state and national championships in all disciplines of the sport - skeet, trap, and sporting clays.

The 2023 season saw the program make its first-ever trip to the ACUI Nationals in San Antonio, TX where the Warriors placed third overall in the Division IV Classic All-Around (CAA), competing in all three disciplines. The Warriors were led by sophomores Nathan Dunsbergen and Landon Hubble. The Warriors also placed seventh overall in the SCTP/ICCAC State Championships. Academically, the Warriors received 15 ICCAC Academic All-Region honors, including 12 first-team selections.

In 2022, Stalzer was instrumental in receiving the Range Development Grant through the MidwayUSA Foundation. Indian Hills was one of just 47 programs across the nation to receive the grant. In collaboration with the Appanoose County Shooting Club (ACSC), the Warriors are the lone collegiate sports shooting program, and just one of four programs from the state of Iowa to receive funding via the Range Development Endowment. In total, $750,000 was distributed through the cash grant payout to the 47 programs selected to receive the grant. The grant will directly benefit the facilities of the Warriors' home and practice clubs, including new lighting and upgrades to the ACSC.

In the 2021-22 academic year, the Warriors placed second overall at the SCTP Collegiate Nationals in Marengo, OH and placed fifth overall at the Iowa SCTP State Championship. Academically, the program received 23 All-Academic honors from the ICCAC throughout the year.

A native of Albia, IA, Stalzer earned his associate of arts degree at Indian Hills and was a member of the Indian Hills Baseball program. Stalzer completed his academic and athletic career at Elon University in North Carolina.

Stalzer said he believes sports shooting is appealing because it's fun, and is a sport that offers many life lessons such as safety, discipline, patience, mental focus and teamwork.  "I like the fact that this sport gives high school students, who might not have thought it was possible, a chance to become college student-athletes."
