Ottumwa -- Cheyanne Bergert drove a pitch over the centerfield fence with two teammates on base and her three-run homer in the bottom of the 8th inning allowed Indian Hills to grab a walk-off 7-5 victory over NIACC and complete a sweep of a Sunday doubleheader. Bergert's game-ending blast capped a four-run rally. IHCC had taken the opener, 8-4, with Bergert setting the tone in that contest with a three-run homer in the bottom of the 1st.
The Warriors have won eight in a row and are 20-5 heading into a Wednesday home twinbill against Ellsworth CC.
Indian Hills spotted NIACC a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one. Bergert's three-run roundtripper gave the Warriors the lead for good. Taylor Takushi added a homer in the second and Abby Straight drove in a run with an infield groundout in the 5th.
A quick 3-0 IHCC advantage in the nightcap stood up until the Trojans rallied for three runs in the top of the 7th. NIACC got a two-run home run to take a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the 8th and that's when the Warriors put together their comeback. Straight knocked in a run with a single to make it a one-run game and Bergert ended it with her drive to center.
