Warriors Homer Five Times, Drub Iowa Lakes

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills blasted five home runs, four in one inning, and pounded Iowa Lakes in both games of a Wednesday doubleheader.  Abby Straight allowed only four hits in a first-game 13-1 pasting, and Carlyn Stanley permitted just one single in notching the second-game win, 9-0.

The two wins boost the current IHCC victory streak to 12.  Their season mark is 24-5 heading into a doubleheader against Kirkwood CC on Friday at Hellyer Field.  Kirkwood is ranked 3rd in the latest NJCAA DII poll.

Iowa Lakes scored their only run of the day in the top of the 1st inning of game one and then didn't score again over the final nine innings.

IHCC put five runs on the board in the 3rd, highlighted by a two-run double by Lexi Smith and an RBI single from Jaylie Reints.  The Warriors exploded for eight runs the next inning.  Alexis Westercamp led off with a single and rode home on a homer by Helaina JohnsonCheyanne Bergert knocked in two runs with a double and scored on a Smith homer.  Reints and Straight added round-trippers and the rout was on.

Straight struck out nine in her complete game effort.

Stanley fanned eight in the second game.

Taylor Takushi led the offense in the nightcap with a solo home run and a two-run single.  Stanley also had a two-run single and Katelyn Banning had a two-RBI game.
