Bergert Leads IHCC Drubbing of MCC

Marshalltown, Iowa -- Indian Hills' latest offensive explosion saw the Warriors score 38 runs, bang out 38 hits, slug eight home runs and score in all 10 innings played in burying Marshalltown CC, 21-3 and 17-5, in an ICCAC doubleheader on Friday.

Cheyanne Bergert enjoyed a huge day at the plate with three homers and 11 RBIs as the Warriors upped their current winning streak to 10 and advanced their overall record to 36-7 in their fourth twinbill sweep in as many days.

Nearly every Warrior contributed to the onslaught in game one: Bergert, Alexis Westercamp, Vanessa Bakley and Jaylie Reints all homered, Bergert knocked in seven runs and Reints four, and Taylor Takushi scored four times.  Takushi went 3-for-3, Erin Kuba was 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs, and Bakley had three runs and three RBIs.  The big inning was the 4th when the Warriors plated eight runs.  Carlyn Stanley benefited from all the offense with a complete-game effort, scattering six hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Indian Hills had four more long balls in game two, including a pair by Bergert.  Her first shot in the 2nd inning was followed by a homer by Abby StraightHelaina Johnson smashed a homer in the 3rd and Bergert went deep again the following inning.  Katelyn Banning and Bakley each drove in three runs and Takushi, Johnson and Straight had two-RBI games.  Bergert also scored four runs while Straight and Banning crossed the plate three times apiece.  Tia Kohl's route-going pitching performance included three Ks.
