Warriors Split at Home, Groet Shines

Groet

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills got a dominant pitching performance from Alexis Groet in the opener, but NIACC rebounded for a 12-6 win in the nightcap as the Warriors started their home schedule on Thursday.

The Warriors managed to score only one run in game one, but that was all Groet needed as the freshman righthander permitted only five hits and struck out 15 in the 1-0 blanking.  She outdueled the Trojans' Kristen Peka.  The game's lone run came in the 4th when Jaylie Reints drove in Brooke Snider.  Snider had two of IHCC's three hits.

In the second game, the score was tied 4-4 after three innings.  NIACC then scored eight runs over the next four innings to gain the split.  Indian Hills leadoff hitter Brittni Lloyd had two hits, two stolen bases and three runs scored.  Reints doubled twice and Chloe Olson and Jordan Hollon had two RBIs with Olson slugging her team-leading 7th homer.  Jakala Hall started and worked four innings in the circle for the Warriors.  Nina Hendriks went the final three frames.

Indian Hills will host Iowa Lakes at R.L. Hellyer Field on Saturday.
