Indian Hills Takes Two From SCC

SCC

Ottumwa -- The Indian Hills Warriors ran their winning streak to six and, most importantly, opened their conference schedule with a pair of wins on Tuesday.  The Warriors knocked off visiting Southeastern by scores of 6-4 and 10-3 at R.L. Hellyer field.

Taylor Spreckelmeyer got things started for IHCC in game one with a two-out, two-run single in the 2nd inning to provide an early advantage.  In the next inning, Jordan Hollon doubled home Macey Harrington and Jaylie Reints scored on a wild pitch to double the lead to 4-0.  Two more runs scored in the 4th, courtesy of a two-run single from Brooke Snider that plated Brittni Lloyd and Vanessa Bakley that made it 6-0.  The only troublesome inning for IHCC starting pitcher Alexis Groet was the 6th when SCC loaded the bases and Chayse Lowney slammed a grand slam homer.  Groet came back with a 1-2-3 7th inning, however, and the Warriors claimed the victory.

Indian Hills jumped on top to begin game two with Lloyd scoring after a leadoff single.  Lowney went deep again to tie the score at one, but the Warriors ran away with the game, Snider providing the big blow with a grand slam homer, her 10th long ball of the spring.

"It was a great start to conference play," said IHCC coach Lindsay Diehl.  "We are getting better at playing the full seven innings for two games.  Earlier in the season we had been putting runs up and then going to sleep for a few innings.  We are starting to play together as a team and have fun at the ballpark.  I look forward to the growth that we are going to have in April."

The Warriors are above .500 for the first time this season with their 15-14 mark.  They have upcoming league doubleheaders at Marshalltown and Iowa Western with the Marshalltown games slated for this Friday.
