Ottumwa -- Freshman Macey Harrington singled home the winning run in the 10th inning of the opener, then homered twice in the nightcap as Indian Hills took both games of an inter-state doubleheader with State Fair (Mo.) CC on Saturday at R.L. Hellyer Field.
Harrington's single drove home Brooke Snider to snap a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the 10th of game one. After State Fair broke a scoreless deadlock with a run in the top of the 6th, Alexis Westercamp had an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to forge a tie. It stayed 1-1 until Harrington's game-winner. Alexis Groet turned in a masterful pitching performace for Indian Hills, going the 10-inning distance with 21 strikeouts. She permitted only three hits and one walk.
Harrington lined a solo home run to right-center in the bottom of the first in the second game to knot the score at one, then smashed a two-run shot in the 5th to put IHCC on top. Westercamp followed with a homer to give Indian Hills a 5-2 lead. State Fair, though, responded with a pair of home runs in the 6th to make it 5-5. The Warriors took advantage of State Fair errors to plate two runs in the bottom of the 6th, then saw a Roadrunner rally in the top of the 7th fall a run short as Indian Hills won their 6th game in a row. Jaylie Reints had a two-out RBI single to score Snider with the first run for IHCC. Snider, Harrington and Westercamp all had two-hit games. Nina Hendriks got the pitching victory.
Harrington had her 4th multi-homerun game of the season and now has 18 round-trippers, just one shy of the single-season school record of 19, held by Breon Michel and Kacey Duffield. She also has a team-leading 46 RBIs.
The Warriors are 14-2 over their last 16 games and 23-16 for the year. They will play two games at NIACC on Tuesday.
