IHCC Women Blank Northeast, On to Semifinals

Ottumwa -- After beating Northeast (Neb.) twice by 1-0 scores during the regular season, Indian Hills made sure the third time the teams met -- in the conference tournament first round -- wouldn't have nearly the drama. Megan McElmeel's goal just six minutes into the match on Wednesday got the Warriors started on the way to a 5-0 romp past the Hawks and a spot in the postseason semifinals on Saturday. There, the Warriors (15-3-1) will meet Scott CC, an upset winner over Iowa Central in the first round Wednesday.

IHCC owns two victories over Scott, beating them 7-1 and 2-0 during the regular season. Saturday's matchup will take place at noon at James Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines. The winner plays the winner of the Iowa Lakes-Iowa Western battle in the championship duel on Sunday at 1:00.

McElmeel's goal to open the scoring was her team-leading 14th of the year. Charlotte Hislop netted her first goal of the season in the 29th minute to double the lead. The Warriors got one more first-half goal, by Laura Hallissey nine minutes after Hislop scored.

Hallissey added another goal, her 11th of the season, in the second half to close the IHCC scoring after Hannah Mitchell booted home her 12th goal in the 54th minute.

It's the second straight trip to the conference tourney semis for the Warriors, who lost to Iowa Western a year ago
