Warriors Claim Wells Fargo Cup

Wells Fargo

Ottumwa -- After winning their first two contests of the 2019 season on the road, the Indian Hills women came home and doubled their victory total over the weekend and, in the process, carried off the Wells Fargo Cup trophy for the third straight year.  The Warriors knocked off Parkland (Ill.), 7-2, on Friday and then blanked Otero (Colo.), 2-0, Sunday to stay undefeated for the fall.

The Parkland match featured an Emily Murphy hat-trick, her first of this year after scoring three or more goals in a game eight times as a freshman.  Murphy opened the scoring in the 10th minute, converting a nice pass from Julie Gouillart.  After Georgia Lindon made it 2-0 with her first goal at IHCC, Murphy got her second score of the day with an assist from Kiri Chiba.  Murphy had picked up an assist on the Lindon goal.  Lily Aungier notched Indian Hills' fourth goal in the opening 24 minutes with Gouillart getting her second assist.  The Warriors kept rolling in the second period, Madison L. Meyer scoring back-to-back goals just four minutes apart, and Murphy getting goal number-three in the 60th minute.  Parkland avoided the shutout with a pair of late goals, the second coming with a minute left to play.

The Warriors took 32 shots.  Their goalkeeping duties were shared by Elani Mears and Megan Wick.  Mears had two saves while playing the first 45 minutes and Wick had five stops in the final half.

Against Otero, both goals came in the first half with the two sides playing some outstanding defense in the final period.  Murphy had the first goal with Miranda Kurtt and Yui Okamoto both credited with assists.  Then, Kurtt picked up her second goal of the year off a feed from Murphy.  Mears went the distance in goal and stopped four shots on goal.

IHCC takes its 4-0 record to West Burlington on Wednesday for a match against Southeastern CC.
