Murphy's Hat Trick Helps Beat Heartland

Heartland

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills kept their season record perfect with a 7-3 win at home against Heartland (Ill.) CC on Saturday.  It's the sixth straight win to begin the year for the Warriors, the best start in program history.  Twice before, including last season, they won five in a row to start their schedule.

After a low-scoring first half in which they scored the only two goals, the Warriors found the back of the net five times in the final 35 minutes to tie their season-best goal total.

A pair of freshmen -- Avery Woldruff and Yui Okamoto -- tallied the first-half goals for the Warriors, the first of their college career for both.  Woldruff got hers just seven minutes into the game, assisted by Kiri Chiba, who leads the team with five assists.  Madison L. Meyer picked up the assist on Okamoto's score.

Heartland cut the deficit in half with the first goal of the final period, but Julie Gouilliart quickly built the advantage back to two for IHCC with a goal in the 56th minute.  Meyer had the assist again.

After that, the goals continued to come fast and furious.  Heartland again made it a one-goal lead for Indian Hills, getting a score just a minute after Gouilliart's goal, and it was 3-2.  Then, IHCC's Emily Murphy helped stretch the lead.  Murphy scored three times in a 23-minute span, giving her nine goals for the season.  Georgia Lindon also scored for the Warriors with an assist by Sanna Croes, her second of the half.  Gouilliart assisted on Murphy's second score and Carolina Farias was credited with an assist on Murphy's goal that ended the scoring.

Elani Mears had four saves in goal for IHCC.  The Warriors amassed 27 shots.

Indian Hills puts its unbeaten record on the line in a match against Scott CC on the IHCC field on Wednesday.
