Indian Hills Edged by Iowa Western in Region Title Match

Murphy

Council Bluffs, Iowa -- After what happened in the previous Region XI postseason matches between Indian Hills and Iowa Western no one should have been surprised that Saturday's matchup between the two conference foes was another nail-biter.  In the end, a goal by the Reivers' Laura Linares in the 76th minute was the difference as Iowa Western advanced to a district contest in Wyoming and the Warriors saw their season come to a close in a 2-1 defeat.

All three goals were scored in the second half of the tense struggle between the teams who met once in the regular season -- the Reivers winning 3-1 on their own field.

Emily Murphy booted the IHCC goal, an unassisted one that was her 34th of the season and 71st of her career.  That tied the score at 1-1 and came about four minutes after Moriah Lucas had broken the scoreless deadlock for the Reivers.  Linares got the assist on the first IWCC score and then knocked home the game-winner.

IHCC goalkeeper Elani Mears had seven saves; IWCC keeper Judit Gonzales allowed Indian Hills just one goal for the second time this season and made two saves.

The Warriors' season ends with a 15-2-1 record.  It's the second-highest win total in program history and gives IHCC 56 victories in the past four years under head coach Anthony Longo.
