Murphy Named to All-American Squad

Murphy

Ottumwa -- Emily Murphy has capped her IHCC soccer career by being named an NJCAA All-American for the second year in a row.  Murphy was chosen for the All-American second team this fall after she was an Honorable Mention selection following her freshman campaign.

It will take a tremendous performance to even approach what Murphy has done on the pitch for Indian Hills the past two seasons in helping lead the Warriors to an overall mark of 28-6-1.  After scoring a program-record 37 goals as a freshman, Murphy came close to matching that total last season when she scored 34 times.  As a soph, the Burlington, Iowa, native added eight assists to her goals total and had six hat tricks.  She scored at least once in 15 of the 18 matches in 2019 and had 11 multiple-goal efforts.

Murphy gave a glimpse of what was to come when she tallied four goals in the first game of her freshman season, and she didn't let up.  She added 15 assists to her 37 goals, had eight hat tricks and had a goal in 12 of her team's 17 games.

So, Murphy found the back of the net at least once 27 times in her 35-game IHCC career, totaling 71 goals in all.  She had 23 assists and 14 hat tricks in her two seasons.

After being named to the all-region first-team following her freshman year, Murphy was chosen as the region's Player of the Year this season while again capturing first-team all-region honors.

Murphy is the second player in program history to earn All-American honors.  Laura Hallissey was an Honorable Mention pick in 2017.
