Council Bluffs, IA – Five different individuals found the back of the net to lead the Indian Hills Women's Soccer squad to a 5-0 win over Western Nebraska Community College on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors move to 2-1-0 on the year.
Indian Hills powered past the Cougars during Saturday's neutral site contest in Council Bluffs thanks in large part to four second half goals and a dominant defensive performance. The Warriors pitched their second shutout in three games to open the year as sophomore María Melendez (Aragua, Venezuela/Aragua Estudiantil) was not tested in goal to secure the win.
The Warriors broke free in the 23rd minute as sophomore Alexia Bru (Barcelona, Spain/Vall d'Hebrón) connected on her second penalty kick goal of the young season for a 1-0 advantage. The Warriors took the one-goal advantage into the second half before Rachel Okoro (Slough, England/Claires Court) scored in the 60th minute to double the lead. Okoro was assisted by Mayo Kawashima (Hiroshima, Japan/Osaka Gakugei) and Rocío Criado (Madrid, Spain/North Cross School) for the goal.
Just eight minutes later, Lina Kaabeche (Lyon, France/Claude Bernard) tallied her first career collegiate goal for a 3-0 lead. Arnicka Louis (Castries, Saint Lucia/Sir Ira Simmons) put the Warriors ahead 4-0 in the 75th minute on an assist from Aubree Boyd, the freshman's third helper of the year.
Sophomore Maika Nchana (Barcelona, Spain/INS Torras I Bages) capped the scoring in the 84th minute with her second goal of the season. Nchana was assisted by Louis and Michelle Salazar (Alajuela, Costa Rica/CTP Rosario De Naranjo) for the team's fifth tally of the contest.
In the first all-time meeting between the two clubs, the Warriors fired 20 shots on the day, including 13 on target.
Indian Hills returns to action Monay afternoon with a non-league matchup at Southeastern Community College at 1:00 PM in Burlington, IA.
