WARRIORS BLANK HINDS TO CAP SOUTHERN TRIP

Raymond, MS – The Indian Hills Women's Soccer team closed out its southern trip with a dominant 5-0 win at Hinds Community College (MS) on Saturday night. The Warriors up their record to 4-2-0 overall on the year.

Sophomore Rachel Okoro (Slough, England/Claires Court) tallied a pair of goals, the first and last scores of the game to pace the offense for the Warriors. Indian Hills put four goals in the back of the net in the first half, including a pair of strikes less than a minute apart before heading into halftime.

Sophomore María Melendez  (Aragua, Venezuela/Aragua Estudiantil) earned the win in net for the Warriors while sharing time with freshman Kyrsten DeWees (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa). The duo stopped a pair of shots in the victory.

The Warriors split their two road contests during the southern trip, falling to Pensacola State College (FL) 2-1 on Thursday night before closing out the weekend with the shutout of Hinds.

Okoro put the Warriors on the board first with a goal at the 12:59 mark of the first half on assists from Arnicka Louis (Castries, Saint Lucia/Sir Ira Simmons) and Kiara Levac (Sudbury, Canada/E.S.C. I'Horizon). Okoro was on the giving end of the Warriors' next goal as Nana Tanikawa (Kawasaki, Japan/Takatsu) scored her first collegiate goal at the 22:48 mark.

Arnicka Louis (Castries, Saint Lucia/Sir Ira Simmons) put the Warriors ahead 3-0 at the 40:54 mark of the first half on assists from Lauren Tarbell (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) and Tanikawa. Less than a minute later, Maika Nchana (Barcelona, Spain/INS Torras I Bages) found the back of the net on assists from Alexia Bru (Barcelona, Spain/Vall d'Hebrón) and Tanikawa, the freshman's fourth point of the night.

Indian Hills maintained its four-goal advantage until Okoro capped the scoring in the 82nd minute as DeWees was credited with her first collegiate point with an assist on the final goal of the match.

Okoro and Louis now rank second in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with a team-high five goals on the year while Okoro ranks second in the league with 14 points this season.

With the combined shutout on Saturday, Melendez lowered her season goals against average to 0.78, the ninth lowest mark in the nation for goalies with at least four appearances on the year. Melendez also ranks in the top-five in the nation in wins, minutes, and total shutouts.

The Warriors are set for another road trip – this time to Murfreesboro, TN for a pair of games next weekend. Indian Hills will take on Harford Community College (MD) on September 13 and Motlow State Community College on September 15 with both games at Motlow State.
