Ottumwa, IA – For the second time this season, and third time in her Indian Hills career, sophomore María Melendez (Aragua, Venezuela/Aragua Estudiantil) has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon.
Melendez helped lead the Indian Hills Women's Soccer squad to a pair of wins last week on the road, a feat that pushed the Warriors into the national rankings for the first time in two seasons. Melendez and the Warriors upended Harford Community College (MD) 5-0 on Friday before knocking off No. 15 Motlow State Community College (TN) 2-1 on Sunday. The Warriors sit at 6-2-0 overall on the year.
Melendez stopped a pair of shots in the shutout over Harford, the sophomore's third clean sheet of the year and sixth in her Indian Hills career, good enough for third-most all-time in school history. Melendez followed up with six saves in the upset win over Motlow State.
Melendez currently boasts the second-most wins in the nation with six to go along with a 0.70 goals against average for the Warriors.
Indian Hills returns to action Wednesday afternoon with a cross-division matchup at Iowa Central Community College. Kick-off is set for 1:00 PM.
