IHCC Women Run at Region XI Meet

Council Bluffs, Iowa -- The Indian Hills women's track and field squad had a handful of record-breaking performances at the Region XI Championships May 4-5 at a meet hosted by Iowa Western Community College.  The Warriors finished fifth in the conference meet, their final tuneup before the NJCAA national championship meet later this month.

 

 

Day one of the Region XI Championships was highlighted by a school record among other impressive performances. MyKedra Craig took charge for the women with a 12.54 in the 100m prelims with teammate Dyashia Colvin close behind in 12.70. Craig and Colvin placed sixth and eighth, respectively, heading into the finals. Shalandra Shilling provided the first IHCC highlight, picked up points for the women in the long jump with a school record jump of 4.78m.

 

The second day saw three more school records drop. Tyarra English-Paulson ran away with the 400 meter hurdles, winning by four seconds with a school record time of 1:02.65. This currently puts her third in the NJCAA. The next record that fell was in the 4x400 meter relay by the IHCC unit consisting of English-Paulson, Colvin, Halley Wilmes and Ashley Miller.  The quartet ran 4:07.66 to place second. Wilmes lowered her school record in the 800 meters, running 2:22.41. Morgan Lawson continued her impressive steeplechase performances, finishing third. Ashlyn Elmore took the title in the women's 5000 meter run. Shalandra Shilling led the way for the women in field events, placing second in the high jump. This was the first time in Shilling's collegiate career that she did not win the region title. Haley Revell also placed in the shot put, throwing 32.11 meters. Craig crossed the line in fourth in the 100 meter finals with a time of 12.52. Her teammate, Colvin, was eighth. Colvin also placed eighth in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 1:00.58.

 

Next up, the Warriors will head to Hobbs, New Mexico to compete in the NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 16-18, hosted by New Mexico Junior College. These Indian Hills women will compete in four events: Tyarra English-Paulson (400 meter hurdles, 4x400), MyKedra Craig (100 meters), Halley Wilmes (800 meters, 4x400), Dyashia Colvin (4x400) and Ashley Miller (4x400).
