IHCC Takes Down National Champs Again

Boone, Iowa -- For the second time this season, Indian Hills earned a victory against Parkland College, the defending Division II national champions in 2015. The latest win for the Warriors came in their first match at an invitational hosted by DMACC on Saturday. Indian Hills dropped the opening set to the Cobras, 25-13, but quickly turned things around with a 25-14 second-set win and then took the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-18.

Indian Hills also owns a 3-2 win against Parkland, accomplished in a late-August tourney at the Wisconsin Dells.

The two defeats to Indian Hills are the only losses this fall for Parkland, now 33-2 and rated No. 1 in the latest DII poll. The Warriors, the No. 12 team in Division I, notched their 14th consecutive win in beating the Cobras, and made it 15 in a row with a later romp past Rochester CTC, 25-16, 25-12 and 25-21, to improve to 24-3 overall.

Camila Nociletti's 18 kills and 13 by Bailey Darnall were key in the win against Parkland. Both also had double-digit digs totals -- 15 for Darnall and 11 for Nicoletti. Setter Yanjiao Zhao had 38 assists and Talita Oliveira was in on seven blocks for the Warriors. "Great defense kept us on the gas pedal after a slow first set," explained IHCC coach Lyndsey Michel. "Our aggressive serving and offensive attack continues to be impressive."

Fourteen different players saw action in at least one set against Rochester in the later match. Raegan Moeller contributed seven kills and had a 1.000 hitting percentage. Darnall led with 10 kills and seven blocks. Iva Popovic played one set and had five blocks for the Warriors. Michel said, "We got great offense out of Raegan Moeller! Our middle hitters did a good job of terminating. It was nice to get a full team effort before the upcoming Iowa Western match."

The Warriors will welcome second-ranked Iowa Western to the Hellyer Center on Tuesday night with the first serve at 7:00.
