IHCC Gets Road Win at Marshalltown

Marshalltown, Iowa -- Wrapping up their four-match regional schedule on Wednesday night, Indian Hills took all three sets from Marshalltown CC, winning 25-14, 25-18, 25-15. The Warriors won three of four matches against Marshalltown and Iowa Western in the regular season and tied the Reivers at 3-1 in the region. However, Iowa Western wins the tiebreaker and the right to host the district tourney by virtue of winning five of eight sets in two matches with IHCC.

In the Marshalltown match, the Warriors won despite the absence from the lineup of Bailey Darnall, one of the team's leading hitters. "Even though we lacked the presence of Darnall's mighty fire, our lineup changes were outstanding (Wednesday)," said IHCC coach Lyndsey Michel.

Marshalltown held early leads in the first two sets, but couldn't sustain the early momentum.

Talita Oliveira helped make up for Darnall's absence with seven kills and a .700 hitting percentage. And she had some help. "Antonija (Ivanovic) stepped up and took on the outside hitter position and competed at a high level," the Indian Hills head coach said. "She should make a great contribution offensively to our team while Bailey is sidelined."

The win was the 21st in a row for the Warriors, now 30-3 for the season. It's the third straight year and the fourth time in the five years that Michel has been the head coach that the Warriors have won at least 30 matches.

IHCC competes in the Iowa Central tournament on Friday, with matches against North Platte (Neb.) and Carl Sandburg.
