IHCC Volleyball Season Comes to an End

Council Bluffs, Iowa -- The Indian Hills volleyball season that included a school-record 27 consecutive match wins and a top-six national ranking came to an end on Saturday in the District J tournament. The Warriors lost for the second day in a row to conference rival Iowa Western in the championship match of the postseason tourney.

Indian Hills had opened with a 3-0 win against Marshalltown for its 27th straight victory before dropping a 3-0 decision to Iowa Western on Friday. The next day the Warriors stayed alive in the double-elimination event by sweeping Vincennes (Ind.) and then took the opening set from Iowa Western, before losing the next three sets.

Freshman Camila Nicoletti led the Warriors in kills in all four matches, with a high of 25 in Saturday's matchup with Iowa Western.

Sophomore Bailey Darnall, still recovering from a late-season injury, played in both Iowa Western matches and contributed 10 kills in one and 15 in the other.

Faced with having to beat the Reivers twice on Saturday to win the tourney, Indian Hills took the opening set, 25-19, and had an early lead in the second one. Iowa Western wound up winning three close sets in a row, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-22.

The Warriors ended the season with a 37-5 record, the fourth-most match wins in a season in school history.
