Indian Hills Perfect at Otero Volleyball Tourney

La Junta, Colorado -- Indian Hills ran its early-season winning streak to six in a row by sweeping all four matches at Otero Junior College over the weekend.  The Warriors polished off Lamar and Otero on Friday and then dispatched Trinidad State and Frank Phillips (Tex.) Saturday, beating Lamar 3-0 and the other three foes 3-1.

The Warriors defeated Lamar in straight sets, 25-19, 25-18, 25-21, thanks to 14 kills and 10 digs by Mariana RodriguesCecilia Campos added 10 kills and Amanda Toyota had 10 digs.  Yasmin Assis recorded 36 assists.

Against Otero, the Warriors dropped the opening set, 25-21, then took the next three, 25-16, 25-21, 25-19, again led at the net by Rodrigues with 19 kills.  Iva Vranic had a dozen kills and Campos 11.  IHCC piled up 62 digs -- 17 by Toyota and 16 more by Rodrigues.  Assis and Laisa Telles Maeda shared the setter duties and combined for 47 assists.

On Saturday, IHCC lost the second set against both Trinidad State and Frank Phillips, but won both matches, 3-1.

Indian Hills claimed the opening set from Trinidad State, 25-18, then, after losing 25-19, came back to win 25-19 and 25-20.  Campos was the kills leader with 18, three more than Rodrigues.  Toyota's 15 digs were tops as were Assis' 33 assists.  Suzana Andrade had a strong service outing with four ace serves, and she added five more in the next match.

The Warriors won set one against Frank Phillips, 25-20, lost the next set, 25-22, then won 25-17 and 25-10 to finish off the weekend sweep.  Again, it was Rodrigues with strong net play smashing 15 kills while Campos had 13.  Toyota and Andrade had 28 digs between them and Campos notched eight block assists.

Next up for the Warriors is a trip to No. 3-rated Iowa Western on Wednesday night.
