Warriors Outlast Jefferson in Four Sets

Jefferson

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills pulled out a tense four-set match with Jefferson (Mo.) College at the Hellyer Center on Saturday afternoon.  All four sets were decided by two points with Jefferson taking the opener, 28-26, and the Warriors winning by scores of 25-23, 28-26 and 26-24.

Every set featured the winning team coming from behind to pull out a victory.

Jefferson went ahead 15-10 in set one, only to see the Warriors battle back.  Jefferson held off the IHCC comeback for the early advantage.  A kill by Cecilia Campos allowed Indian Hills to claim the second set.  IHCC's Iva Vranic had two big plays at the end of the next set -- a combo block with Sophia Nascimento followed by a crucial kill -- as Indian Hills took a two sets-to-one lead.

The fourth set saw Jefferson take an 18-13 lead with their sights set on extending the match to a fifth set.  Again, the Warriors came back and when Brooke Johnson-Watkins delivered a final kill IHCC secured their 9th win of the season against three losses.

Mariana Rodrigues led the IHCC stat sheet with 22 kills and 12 digs.  Campos added 17 kills, Amanda Toyota and Yasmin Assis combined for 21 digs, and Assis piled up 59 assists from her setter position.
