Ottumwa -- Indian Hills freshman outside hitter Mariana Rodrigues has been recognized for an outstanding season by being named an All-American. Rodrigues, from Parnaiba, Brazil, was selected for the NJCAA All-American second team.
Rodrigues ended her first season of college volleyball with 537 kills, a total which was second in the nation and sixth-best in IHCC history for a single season. She averaged 4.26 kills-per-set, also second in the NJCAA. Rodrigues pounded double-digit kills in 31 of her team's 34 matches in 2018.
She had the Warriors' second-best digs total with 370 and produced double figures in both kills and digs in 18 matches.
Rodrigues becomes the 11th volleyball All-American for Indian Hills and just the second to be named as a freshman. Tamara Merseli was the first freshman IHCC All-American in 2014.
