Warriors Recover to Defeat Northeast

Rodrigues

Ottumwa -- It may have taken Indian Hills a set to regroup after getting a victory over Marshalltown the previous evening, but IHCC stormed back to knock off Northeast (Neb.) CC in four sets in a rare weekday matinee at the Hellyer Center on Thursday.  The visitors got Indian Hills' attention with their 25-21 win in the first set, then the Warriors won the next three, 25-16, 25-14, 25-20 to raise their season mark to 18-2.

Mariana Rodrigues led IHCC at the net with her 22 kills, and the sophomore also served three aces.  Sydney Kloubec and Sophie Nascimento each chipped in 10 kills.  Five different players had double-figure total in digs as the Warriors piled up a season-high 82.  Amanda Toyota had 17, Suzana Andrade and Rodrigues 14 apiece, Cassia Lemos 13 and Thayna Birimba 11.  Lemos' total of 61 assists from her setter spot was second-only to the 68 she had in an earlier match against Northeast.  She is the national leader with an average of 13.89 assists per set and her total of 903 is second in the country.

Indian Hills will have nearly a week to prepare for their first of two regular-season matchups with Iowa Western.  The two will square off at the Hellyer Center next Wednesday night at 7:00.
