WARRIORS WIN A PAIR AT AVILA DUALS

Kansas City, MO – The No. 1 nationally ranked Indian Hills Women's Wrestling squad posted a 2-1-1 record at the 2022 Avila Duals on Friday. The Warriors are now 6-1-1 in duals on the year.

Competing against the top competition from the NAIA, the Warriors defeated No. 12 Missouri Baptist University 26-23 and RV Ottawa University 29-19 before falling to No. 8 Central Methodist University 28-21. The Warriors tied No. 12 Iowa Wesleyan University 23-23 in the team's final dual of the day.

In the opening bout, the Warriors used victories from Shammilka Miranda Diaz (Puerto Rico/Eugenio Guerra Cruz), Alondra Rosado Martinez (Carolina Puerto Rico/Colegio Amarlieen) and Tiffany White (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park River Forest) along with a pair of forfeits to pick up the win. Diaz scored a fall in 2:26 in the 123lb class while Rosado Martinez, the defending national champion, earned a fall in 1:13 at 143lbs. White scored a fall in 1:20 in the 191lb matchup.

The Warriors rolled to its second victory in the second dual vs. Ottawa. Malachite Chunn (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville) earned a 10-0 tech fall at 109lbs followed by another pin from Diaz who earned the fall in 2:12. Liannette Ortiz (Kissimmee, FL/Gateway) earned a 10-4 decision at 123lbs to score for the Warriors. Rosado Martinez used a fall in just 33 seconds to extend the lead while White secured the victory at 191lbs with a fall in 39 seconds.

Diaz earned her third victory of the day in the third dual against Central Methodist as the freshman picked up a fall in 4:00 over the No. 5 nationally ranked NAIA individual Hannah Hall. Jazmyn Knutson (West Des Moines, IA/Valley) earned a 12-0 tech fall at 143lbs while Yaracely Saenz (Bernalillo, NM/Bernalillo) scored a fall in 1:46, but the Warriors fell to the Eagles.

The Warriors used a late pin in the final match of the team's fourth dual against Iowa Wesleyan to earn the split. Trailing 23-18, White secured her third fall of the day in 1:54 to score five team points for the Warriors and earn the 23-23 team tie. Dutchess King (Lansing, IL/Thornton Fractional South) earned a 10-0 tech fall at 101lbs against former Warrior Mya Turnmire. Rosado Martinez also picked up a win in the dual and finished the day with a 12-0 tech fall.

The Warriors head into the holiday break and will resume action on January 14 at the York Open in York, NE.
