Centerville -- Nathan Chasey this week signed a letter of intent to continue his education and baseball career at Valparaiso University in Indiana.
Chasey had a solid freshman season for IHCC, batting .281 with a homer and 14 RBIs. Among his 27 hits were seven doubles, one triple and the home run. He scored 24 runs and had an on-base percentage of .423. He appeared in eight games as a pitcher with one start, a 2-0 record and 3.59 ERA.
Indian Hills coach Matthew Torrez said Chasey will be competing for a spot in the IHCC rotation next spring. "Nathan has done a wonderful job over the summer and fall developing to give himself the opportunity to play at the Division I level," Torrez said. "He has been a great influence on our team, he comes to do his job every day and brings a ton of energy for us on the field."
Valparaiso competes in the Missouri Valley Conference in baseball and the Crusaders' head coach is Brian Schmack.
