MSWP

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills scorched the nets for 62 first-half points and blitzed Missouri State-West Plains, 119-81, Friday night in the first round of the HyVee Classic at the Hellyer Center.  The 119 points equaled the most an IHCC team has scored in Hank Plona's five years at the helm and marked the second time this season the Warriors have reached the century mark.

Indian Hills jumped on the visitors early with five different players scoring field goals on the way to a quick 17-4 lead.  JD Muila, who contributed a season-high 16 points, had three straight baskets as the margin grew to 23-8.  The Warriors had 62 points by intermission, their highest-scoring half this season.  They shot 58 percent in the opening 20 minutes and drilled 8-of-18 3-point tries.

By the break, Tyon Grant-Foster already had 15 points, Drake Jeffries 11 and Muila 10.  Grant-Foster led the IHCC attack with 22 and Jeffries tied a season-best with his 16, that included four threes.  Muila reeled in nine rebounds to go with his 16 points.

Samba Kane put together an impressive second half, scoring 12 points for the Warriors.  He ended up with 17.  Muila picked up his 4th foul in the first minute of the final period and Kane came in and filled in nicely.

The Grizzlies made only 32 percent of their field goal tries and were outrebounded, 59-38.  Grant-Foster's 10 boards gave him a double-double.  The Warriors tied their season-high with 28 assists, six of them by Loseni Kamara.

Sardaar Calhoun paced MS-WP with his 21 points and Alex Rodrigues chipped in 18.

It was the 7th consecutive win in the series for the Warriors, who will play at West Plains in their second game of the last half of the schedule the first weekend in January.

The final game of the the 2019 portion of the IHCC season will be Saturday night against Ellsworth CC.  They defeated Lake Region (N.D.), 97-71, in Friday's first game.
